MARCH COMPETITION

March has just about gotten away from us! Last weekend was a whirlwind. We decided at the last minute to run at the Friday night jackpot at Spicer's Arena in Eaton, CO, which was on our way to the rodeo in Cheyenne, WY.

We loaded the trailer with FANCY, DIABLO and TWISTY. The Spicer Arena is a great facility with a nice approach 1st barrel. The mares worked great, although were we too fast or too slow for a check in any of the divisions. That is the way it goes sometimes, great runs and no check.

Diablo ran green, but he has only been to a handful of competitions and the experience was good for both of us.

Mark had his work cut out for him helping me warm up horses, switch bridles and taking polos off. I am a perfectionist when it comes to wrapping legs, so he stands back and lets me put the polos on!!

After the race we headed to our friend's house, got the horses settled in and tried to get some sleep! 5:30 am came way too early, but our host and hostess had coffee on and fresh towels out for a hot shower. It was back on the road at 6:30 and off to LCCC in Cheyenne, WY. I was 17 out and slack started at 8:00 AM with barrels first. My good friend was up first, so I was eager to get Fancy warmed up and ready to run and get in the building in time to watch the first few runs.

My first experience with rodeo ground was not as bad as it could of been. I sent my horse in a little too fast and missed my 1st barrel by over a stride, but she smoked 2nd and 3rd and for our first rodeo I could not of been happier.

Sunday afternoon we loaded back up and headed to Akron, CO to the $500 added at Burns Ranch Arena. I was torn as to if I should enter all three or just the girls. I talked myself into just running the girls, FANCY & TWISTY. It turned out to be the right decision, FANCY & I made our best run to date both in that arena and in overall competition. We finished 5th out of 52 entries and broke into the 14's, a long time dream of mine in that pen! TWISTY worked her butt off despite me sending her past 1st. She finished in the money in the 3D, which was good.

Looking forward to a few more jackpots this month and conditioning all the young horses.

KY COLONEL ELITE

This 2 year old gelding has one tough attitude just like his mother and grandmother, both were mares we owned, trained and showed. He is going to be a challenge, but no doubt he will be worth it! Updates on his training to follow.

Parker is a fiesty little mare that will begin training soon. She has a one of a kind personality and is going to be a gritty competitor. We cannot wait to start riding her.

JJ MISS FROSTED

We are excited to see how this mare has grown up and filled out in the past 3 months. She came to us in December of 2008 and has been a pleasure to have in our barn. We are excited to have a SUN FROST bred horse in our string and look forward to getting her started on the barrels this summer.

TWIN BLUFF

"Felix" is another Red Rose Bloodstock bred gelding. He is a very nice yearling with lots of chrome and a laid back disposition. He is currently just being a horse and growing up. When it is time for his training he is sure to be flashy horse that anyone would like to have in their barn.

THE RED MONKEY RACK

The Red Monkey was bred and raised at Red Rose Bloodstock. He is a very nice young gelding that shows all the potential to be a great ranch gelding, rope horse, or just a nice horse to take on a trail ride. He will be sold in May at a sale in Loma, CO.

Images Snipet is a 2006 mare that we purchased as a weanling from her breeder in OK. After watching her grow up for 2 years we were finally able to send her to the trainer last fall. She came home with a great foundation for any event. We cannot wait to see how this little mare performs in the arena. She has the attitude and disposition you look for in a competition horse.

STREAKIN DIABLO

I first met Diablo in the summer of 2008 while taking a lesson with Marlene McRae at her ranch. A great friend and fellow barel racer owned him and I knew from the first ride on him that I wanted him. Finally in January of 2009 Streakin Diablo came to Red Rose Bloodstock. He is extremely athletic and proved to me that he is as versatile as they come when I took him to an eventing clinic earlier this month.

JACKS PARR TEE

Jack is a 2002 gelding by Zan Parr Jack, out of a Tee Cross mare. He has been with us for most of his life, althought we only purchased him in 2006. Some horses just have an heir about them and Jack is one of those boys. He returned to training this month after an eight month layoff due to an ankle injury. We are hopeful that he has made a complete recovery and look forward to a long, successful career with him.

LILLY DOC

At the moment Lilly is experiencing the final month of pregnancy! Her Uno Frio Cerveza foal is due the middle of April and after waiting 11 long months, we are really excited to meet this foal. The sire is a son of DASH TA FAME, and with Lilly's great GENUINE DOC pedigree we know this foal will be one tough barrel horse.

MS FANCY JACK BARR

Fancy has really shown us that she has what it takes to be a top barrel horse. After spending the winter in the roping pen she has returned to barrel racing with a great attitude and the desire to work. This mare will be going to the rodeos in 2009 and has a very bright future.
